Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis Operations

The Sr. Manager, FP&A Operations is responsible for coordinating, administering and controlling the financial operations of the organization as well as ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX requirements, and internal policies and procedures.  Functional responsibilities include oversight of several month-end close process functions; maintaining a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risks, as well as implementing process improvement activities.

Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate and review monthly local close procedures, including preparation of manual journal entries to be submitted to FSS

  • Be the FSS contact person and run monthly cooperation review and close review meetings with FSS

  • Work with departments, FSS and BPO to ensure timely and accurate cutoff procedures

  • Review and resolve outstanding local account reconciliations and work with business and finance employees to resolve any discrepancies

  • Support the FP&A commercial and R&D controllers with preparation of monthly accrual proposals

  • Partner with the tax department to ensure accurate US/OUS cost allocations, accurate entity charges in accordance with IP structure

  • Ensure collaboration charges are captured accurately within AbbVie and in accordance with the company structure

  • Verify the partner’s collaboration invoices on accuracy and completeness

  • Partner with FP&A Alliance Management team on cost share calculation used for monthly bookings, including true-ups to various benchmark (e.g. JU, LAT) bookings

  • Ensure departmental practices are compliant with AbbVie finance policies

  • Assisting with preparation for internal and external audits, internal control documentation, responding directly to auditor inquiries, implementing new controls as needed, and aligning processes with AbbVie Corporate

  • Ensure Sarbanes Oxley section 404 (SOX) compliance; participate in ongoing monitoring, testing and evaluation of local internal controls

  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of internal and external reporting ensuring the quality, reliability and timeliness of the reports.




Education, Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required (CPA required)

  • 8+ years demonstrated accounting expertise (experience at big 4 strongly preferred)

  • Pharmaceutical experience preferred.
  • Comprehensive, expert working knowledge of GAAP, financial metrics, budgeting and project accounting.

  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively with executive management, other functions with the organization, and partner companies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be highly motivated, a strong team player with a high degree of professionalism.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.

  • Strong research and project management skills.  Ability to identify and analyze problems using sound judgment.

  • Excellent supervisory skills.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, goal oriented and a self-starter.

  • Ability to understand complex accounting issues, address business challenges and provide solutions;

  • Works well under pressure, accepts responsibility for own actions and follows through on commitments

  • Pays close attention to details, has multi-tasking ability, and is highly organized

  • Develops alternatives and solutions for a range of problems, including what-if scenarios, and ability to present potential outcomes to management

  • Must be flexible and able to work well as part of a team to meet deadlines

Managerial Responsibilities (must be able to):
  • Directly manage extended team (staff and senior members, in FSS and BPO), although not directly reporting to individual.

  • Provide ongoing coaching, guidance and feedback to ensure extended team members are successful in their work, as well as have the necessary and timely access to information and other resources.

  • Conduct regular touchpoints with extended team to ensure timely communication.
