The Senior Manager / Associate Director, Business Operations will be part of the Development Science Business Operations Team. The role is primarily responsible for managing the operational and financial aspects of the DMPK-BA functional area. This position will collaborate with the leadership team to ensure that the function operates within the current Plan/Update budget. The role may also support initiatives across Development Sciences. The candidate needs to independently and proactively raise issues and opportunities as appropriate. This position will also lead identification, planning and implementation of activities and projects to achieve functional strategies, goals, and objectives


Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead operational activities to enhance functional capabilities, efficiencies and culture. Have significant input into strategic decision-making that affects the business.  These activities may include facilitating team meetings, optimizing and implementing demand/capacity models, acting as a point-of-contact for contracts within the team, and working closely with the function head to support departmental goals.
  • May be responsible for overseeing operations activities/ projects managed by others within the function(s).
  • Serve as local finance resource.
  • Collaborate with function leadership team to forecast, construct and manage budget. Forecast and manage implications of alternative development scenarios.
  • Provide leadership and develop strategic recommendations to ensure all functional areas operate within the current Plan/Update budget.
  • May support other areas in Development Sciences.
  • Collaborate with Business Operations leadership team to support building the group and establish / improve processes of the group to advance the Development Sciences Strategic Objectives


  • MS/BS degree required in a scientific or business-related field with 8-10 years in scientific/business field in pharmaceutical industry. Or Ph.D. with 5-6 years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of standard business processes and systems including project management practices, portfolio review, finance, and budgeting is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and track record for successful projects.
  • Operations experience with large budget and matrixed environment is preferred.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills to achieve goals through interface with internal researchers and senior management. Be articulate and intellectually persuasive.
  • Must be able to summarize and communicate findings and plans in a timely and effective manner.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a dynamic environment with competing projects and deadlines. Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects.
  • Experienced in situations of conflict resolution and problem solving. Proactive and positive team player. Ability to build strong business relationships, foster teamwork, and influence decision-making at multiple levels.
  • Exhibits high level of flexibility when facing changes in the work environment. 

*Job level will be commensurate with experience
