We are looking for are looking for multiple Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering interns for our Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices sites in Sligo and Cork. Our interns will be based across Operations and Engineering and Technical Operations in both the Biologics, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and Drug Product (DP) and Medical Device facilities. Interns will also work on cross functional Continuous Improvement Projects with site and global teams.  Interns can also join our culture teams and STEM education outreach ambassador programmes.

Bio-Tech Intern, Biologics facility. Core Job Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Technical Operations Manager the Bio-Tech Intern will join our team in the support of Technical Operations activities on our new start up Biologics facility. The key activities will include the following:

  • Support Biologic Process Transfer

  • New Product Introduction technical support

  • Support Process Design and Optimisation

  • Support Product Formulation

  • Support Cleaning Validation

  • Development of Process Specification

  • Other Project Duties as required

  • This role will suit someone studying a BioScience degree/masters such as Pharma Biotechnology, Biopharmaceutical chemistry.

Microbiologist Intern – Biologics facility Core Job Responsibilities:

  • As an intern you will be given a unique opportunity be part of the project team who will run the newly set up the Micro-labs and the Quality Systems for the facility.

  • You will support the team with any final stage lab and equipment qualification and documentation

  • Within the lab; Bioburden, Endotoxin, Growth promotion, Biological Indicators and identification testing

  • Support utilities and Environmental monitoring across the site

  • Create and Modify documentation as requested

  • Maintain and order stock requirements for the lab

  • Execute equipment cleans and maintenance as required

  • Become proficient in the use of LIMS and SolTraq

  • Liaise with cross functional departments in order to achieve site goals

  • This role will suit someone studying a degree/masters in Microbiology.


Analytic and Process Chemist Intern. Pharmaceutical Site, Sligo. Core Job Responsibilities:

 Interns will work within the Site Technology team and sample project will include the following activities:

  • Support new product introductions in to the development and commercial facilities.

  • Process support, trouble shooting and optimisation of commercial products.

  • Support new material qualification activities onsite.

  • Support the various Site Technology functions including development facility and Site Technology Analytical Laboratory.

  • Support validation activities onsite.

  • Work collaboratively and cross functionally with Quality, Engineering, Labs and Pharmacists.

  • This role will suit someone studying a degree/masters in Chemistry or related Chemistry degree.

Requirements for an internship with Abbvie

  • Studying for a Bachelors or Master’s Degree student in Chemistry, Microbiology, Bio Sciences. Min of 3.0 GPS or 2.1

  • Completed at least one year of college education before beginning internship

  • Must be enrolled in school the semester following your internship

  • EU working permit
