AbbVie, Manorhamilton Road, Sligo is a high-potent commercialization and launch facility for small molecule API and Oral Solid Dose products. AbbVie Sligo is a young and vibrant site that is a strategic product launch facility within the wider AbbVie Operations network.

We are currently sourcing an Organic Chemist to join our Technical Operations Team in Manorhamilton Road, Sligo. Reporting to a Technical NPI Manager, the Technical Operations Chemist will primarily support API New Product Introductions. Additionally, the candidate will support uninterrupted supply of commercial products and also will optimize commercial processes. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to directly manufacture APIs within a gram scale GMP facility.


In this role, you will provide technical support to all relevant functional areas from a chemistry perspective, and to develop new and innovative processes to deliver cost reductions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support across a range of new products.
  • Develop new and innovative processes to deliver cost reductions.
  • Apply project management tools to support NPI projects. 
  • Execute the manufacture of commercial APIs within our high-potent gram scale GMP facility.
  • Work closely with R&D to support technical transfer projects.
  • Adheres to and supports all EHS standards, procedures and policies



A relevant third level qualification in Organic Chemistry or related technical discipline. A firm grounding in principles of chemistry is required. While not a requirement, a Ph.D. in Organic Synthesis is desirable.


Desired Experience:

  • Fluent in practical and theoretical aspects of synthetic organic chemistry
  • Firm understanding of process scale-up concepts
  • Experience in new product introductions to pharmaceutical facilities is desirable
  • Experience in a range of analytical techniques, in particular chromatography and physical characterization
  • Irrespective of years of experience, a proven track record in taking ownership of technical problems and developing safe & elegant solutions is a fundamental requirement.
