Medical Science Liaison - Oncology/Hematology

Reporting to the Oncology Medical Manager, this position represents the affiliate medical/scientific voice of expertise for assigned product and relevant therapeutic areas. The position provides medical/scientific support to key customers for assigned products and relevant therapeutic areas, including scientific exchange and professional relationship development with external experts, in a strictly scientific, non-promotional manner, and in full compliance with applicable national laws and regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie’s policies and procedures and accepted standards of best practice. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide scientific and technical leadership to ensure professional and credible relationships with thought leaders and external experts of strategic importance to Abbvie. 
  • Ensure a strong medical and scientific presence for Abbvie in key academic centers by facilitation of research and educational initiatives, while supporting requests for medical and scientific information on products or areas of therapeutic interest to Abbvie.
  • Support internal teams such as sales and marketing and members of the Affiliate Brand Team to develop their scientific and technical expertise through the delivery of trainings and scientific update presentations.  Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other in-field members while retaining functional independence.
  • Participate in the implementation of pre-launch and post-launch activities of a new oncology product or indication of an existing oncology product
  • Assist in the initiation, oversight and follow up of assigned clinical studies and medical projects (e.g. post marketing clinical activities such as registry/database projects, epidemiological surveys. All such activities must comply with applicable local laws, guidelines, and codes of practice, SOPs, and AbbVie R&D (GPRD) SOPs.
  • Act as the point of contact with thought leaders to facilitate investigator initiated study (IIS) ideas and requests for support to the local and global medical teams as appropriate.
  • Serve as a point of contact within the Medical Affairs team for Algeria thought leaders and external experts in order to satisfy their needs for scientific knowledge in a therapeutic area and, when requested, AbbVie oncology/hematology medicines, to support their safe, effective and appropriate use.
  • Participate in the selection process to identify appropriately qualified physicians the Company would wish to engage in collaborative efforts – such as potential research collaborations, or lecture/meeting support (Round Tables, Congresses, Symposia, etc.); and to ensure a high level of scientific or educational integrity in these collaborative efforts.  
  • Deliver credible presentations on scientific matters to physicians, individually or in groups (meetings, clinical sessions, etc.), where requested.
  • Attend relevant Scientific Societies meetings and Conferences, and develop summaries of key messages for use within the Company – such as key areas of scientific/company interest, new trends in diagnosis, monitoring and treatments in the therapeutic area, etc.
  • Awareness and understanding of competitor issues/intelligence
  • Play an active part within the Brand team and identify opportunities to work collaboratively with cross-functional colleagues to deliver on Brand objectives
  • Upon request, assist physicians to appropriately direct requests for access to Company products on a named patient or compassionate use basis, subject to all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that all activities and interactions are conducted with due regard to all applicable national laws and regulations, guidelines, codes of conduct, AbbVie’s policies and procedures and accepted standards of best practice.

  • Oncology & or Hematology  experience is preferred
  • Medical or Pharmacy Degree
  • Keen interest in developing and maintaining expert knowledge for assigned therapeutic area/product and in medical research in general. 
  • Solid knowledge of the pharmaceutical environment and excellent skills to set stake-holders relationship.
  • General knowledge on drug development and clinical research is an advantage
  • Strong commitment to compliance with the relevant rules and procedures, and to scientific quality and integrity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong presentation skills (French & English )
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Active team player in the brand team
  • Willingness to travel
