Advances in scientific and technological research are opening up new, promising treatments for previously difficult to treat diseases, increasing the demand on already constrained healthcare budgets. To address the sustainability challenge, payers are using a number of supply and demand side cost containment measures to manage pharmaceutical expenditure.

 

To succeed in this environment, we (AbbVie) need to fully understand market value drivers, evaluate strength and weakness of health technologies used in the disease, define integrated positioning (access and commercial), identify the evidence required for Pricing, Reimbursement and Access (PRA), and work with the evidence generating functions to ensure that evidence generated will support successful PRA negotiations.

 

Position:

 

This role will be responsible for leading a cross-functional team to elaborate key insights for new products in Immunology (prior to Phase 3) and help better tailor clinical development to ensure optimized access and price. Market in scope includes Latin America.

 

This position reports to Director Market Access LATAM.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

 

PRA (Pricing, Reimbursement and Access) Systems and Processes: 

  • Monitoring the general market access environment and key healthcare trends and their impact upon market access-related decision makers and share with Global Market Access & Pricing (GMAP) new developments regarding payer insights and requirements in a systematic way 
  • Ensure pricing and reimbursement at national and local level is aligned to other commercial strategies to meet or exceed affiliate plan 
  • Co-create strategies with GMAP and support implementation plans that shape favorable access and funding environments and appropriate uptake of products

 Pricing, Reimbursement and Access: 

  • Support development and implementation of strategies to secure and maintain access at optimal prices 
  • Operationalize pricing strategy with set pricing guidance
  • Support the affiliates in implementing pricing and reimbursement strategy  
  • Work with the affiliates in the price submissions for approval and discuss with global the different options and implications 
  • Collaborate with Area and Global businesses to maintain awareness and understanding of the impact of local affiliate decisions on AbbVie and ensure strategies and tactics are aligned and deliver brand performance 

Market Access Capabilities: 

  • Drive access mindset through training and other communication initiatives 
  • Ensuring capabilities across access functions (areas and affiliates) are developed and maintained along the product lifecycle 
  • Partner with other functions, such as Medical and Government Affairs, to build networks, understanding and close partnerships with key decision makers and demonstrate influence through joint programs of action that enhance AbbVie brands success 
  • Anticipate and influence Contracting and Tendering (C&T) situations and develop strategies in order to address challenges and improve business opportunities 

 

Education: 

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Economics or scientific disciplines

Experience: 

  • Meaningful experience working within a payer and provider organizations 
  • International health care environment experience 
  • Deep understanding of the healthcare environment, payer and provider mechanisms, funding flows, and legislation affecting market access of pharmaceutical products 
  • Deep knowledge of the price and reimbursement systems and environment in Latin America 
  • Previous experience in the field of Immunology preferred 
  • Relevant experience and success delivering commercial results and/or being responsible for product access to market 
  • Strong experience in Pricing 
  • Strong strategic thinking and brand planning skills

Other requirements: 

  • Affiliate experience preferred 
  • Motivation and ability to grow and develop further in organization 
  • Availability to travel – with occasional peaks in required travel 
  • Languages Requirement: Proficient in both Spanish and English
