We are looking for are looking for multiple Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering interns for our Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices sites in Sligo and Cork. Our interns will be based across Operations and Engineering and Technical Operations in both the Biologics, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and Drug Product (DP) and Medical Device facilities. Interns will also work on cross functional Continuous Improvement Projects with site and global teams.  Interns can also join our culture teams and STEM education outreach ambassador programmes.

Our Cork Site in Carricktwohill is a Bulk Oral Solid Dose manufacturing site for 4 Chemical and a Mechanical engineering interns.


Pharma Chemical Engineering intern x 2 - Core Job Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing on process related tasks in Drug Product or the New Product Introduction suite. Tasks include baseline data collation, assist in process optimisation, technical report writing, technical contribution to daily operations in manufacturing. Support daily operations activities, identify and react to daily critical tasks and adjust work schedule to accommodate high priority actions.

  • Work closely with Operations, Engineering, and Quality to ensure smooth production execution.

  • Identify and lead key life cycle management projects for commercial products which are within their first five years of commercial life on site. With particular emphasis on reducing cost of goods, waste removal, and improved cycle times.

  • Liase and communicate with global personell on projects, provide technical input to the global product technical team as it relates to the Irish site. Take and implement any changes made globally and apply to local operations as they relate.

  • Ensure local operations are in compliance with current global product procedures and implement any improvements to the local site once completed by the broader global team.

  • Creation of Process Flows, Protocols and Reports for production related activities

  • Documentation of all activities in line with cGMP requirements.

  • Adhering to all relevant policies relating to Quality & Safety.

  • Adhering to all Aseptic Manufacturing SOPs and best practices. 

Business Excellence engineer, Chemical or Mechanical engineer – Core Job Responsibilities


The successful candidate will have an interest in continuous improvement and will gain experience in Leans Tools and Continuous Improvement Projects, and will work across all departments in the organisations, gaining an invaluable knowledge of how the business operates and the effects improvements can have across the whole organisation


Sample projects include;

  • Development of expanded warehouse and will include; Safety, Layout, Material flow, SAP Location, Office Areas, Branding & Design and Scoping out of  a dedicated warehouse management system for non SAP stock.
  • Supply chain;  Shipping & Logistics Planning, Global Trade Compliance (Export and Import), NPI Product Launches, Warehousing – Lean & Visual Management and Material Management and iQA process improvements.
  • PSM Purchasing;  Direct Purchasing Overview, Supplier Management and Relationships, REACH Supplier Compliance, Sourcing, Contract, Pricing Negotiations and Spend Analysis Exposure.
  • Implementation of Visual Management and Performance Management in key functions to highlight and resolve roadblocks to smooth flow.
  • Development and roll out of Root Cause Problem Solving infrastructure and training, and embedding a culture of Root Cause Analysis across all departments
Operations Mechanical Engineering - Core Job Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing on process related tasks, technical contribution to daily operations in manufacturing. Support daily operations activities, identify and react to daily critical tasks and adjust work schedule to accommodate high priority actions.
  • Work closely with Operations, Engineering, and Quality to ensure smooth production execution and all product is shipped on time and all release dates are met.
  • Identify and lead key life cycle management, maintenance and reliability projects for commercial products. With particular emphasis on reducing cost of goods, waste removal, and improved cycle times.



 


Requirements for an internship with Abbvie


  • Studying for a Bachelors or Master’s Degree student in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering. Min of 3.0 GPS or 2.1
  • Completed at least one year of college education before beginning internship
  • Must be enrolled in school the semester following your internship
  • EU working permit
