The Clinical Pathology Biomarker Laboratory at AbbVie is seeking a biomarker scientist to perform flow cytometry, immunoassay, and traditional clinical pathology (hematology, coagulation, clinical chemistry, urinalysis) assays supporting pre-clinical safety assessment of pharmaceuticals being developed to treat human disease. 

Job Responsibilities
  • Operating and maintaining a flow cytometer including an understanding of how to perform compensation
  • Assist in immunophenotyping panel development
  • Operating and maintaining immunoassay instrumentation
  • Interpreting and troubleshooting standards, quality control and sample results to ensure accurate and precise test results
  • Generating accurate data and summary tables for interpretation
  • Performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instrumentation
  • Supports hematology, coagulation, clinical chemistry and urinalysis
  • Following all policies, procedures and guidelines necessary for Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulatory compliance
  • Using a validated computer system to receive and process orders, and provide test results 
  • Developing and updating standard operating procedures (SOP)s
  • Designing and implementing procedures for assay qualification and method validation 
  • Completing all mandatory internal training and following implemented health and safety requirements
  • Completing additional training to develop competency in new methods as they are implemented
  • Place data in proper scientific context by consulting and citing relevant literature, and utilize scientific database searches
  • Standing, sitting, lifting up to 40lbs (on occasion), pipetting and other general lab tasks





  • B.S./B.A. in medical laboratory science, immunology, or related field with 3 years of relevant experience OR M.S. with no additional experience required.
  • B.S./M.S. in medical laboratory science or related field with 3+ years of experience within a clinical pathology laboratory within a pharmaceutical company, CRO, hospital or diagnostic company. Knowledge of FCS express, BD FACSCanto, instruments for hematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, and urinalysis and/or plate based multiplex immuno-assays.
  • MT(ASCP)/MLS(ASCP), CLS or AMT certification
