Oncology is a key therapeutic area for AbbVie, with a portfolio consisting of three marketed products — Imbruvica, Venclexta, and Empliciti — and a pipeline containing multiple promising new molecules that are being studied in nearly 200 clinical trials in 19 different types of cancer

 

 

AbbVie is expanding its oncology hub on the West Coast, with three sites in the San Francisco Bay Area (Redwood City, South San Francisco, and Sunnyvale) focused on the discovery and development of novel oncology therapies. More than 1,000 AbbVie scientists, statisticians, clinicians, and product developers with strong entrepreneurial roots work across these three sites. They combine their expertise in immuno-oncology, stem cells, and cell-signaling with their knowledge of bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and covalent-inhibitor technologies to discover and develop novel cancer treatments. This position will be based at AbbVie’s South San Francisco oncology site.

 

 

 

We are looking for an Associate Scientist I/II with experience in in vivo pharmacology study execution, start to finish including tumor implantation, data collection, and data analyses.  Additional opportunities to learn new skills and to work on ex vivo lab experiments will be provided based on project need and candidate’s interest.  The ideal candidate will have experience working with various mouse models of cancer.  Above all, we are looking for a highly motivated and collaborative individual with a passion for oncology research, who enjoys working in a fast-paced and highly dynamic working environment.

 

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

 

 

  • Execute in vivo studies involving CDX, PDX, disseminated and syngeneic models, etc. for various cancer subtypesEvaluate novel cancer therapeutics in vivo through studies such as efficacy, PK, tolerability, and imaging

  • Monitor and execute in vivo studies

  • Collect and process tissue/blood samples

  • Prepare compound formulations and dose animals

  • Analyze and report data regularly at team meetings

  • Potential to undertake cell culture and plate-based assays 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • BS degree or MS degree with zero to 3 years of industry experience.
  • Strong technical expertise in in vivo experimentation, including health monitoring, tumor implantation, tumor measurements, dosing via IP, IV, SC, PO routes, and blood/tissue collection

  • Experience with mouse models of cancer, including CDX (cell line derived) and/or PDX (patient derived) xenograft models preferred

  • AALAS certification is preferred but not required 

  • Excellent laboratory, record keeping, data analysis, and critical thinking skills

  • Experience with cell culture and/or ELISA-type assays is a plus but not required

  • A team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time-management skills enabling efficiency and independence

  • Willingness to have schedule flexibility and to split weekend and holiday hours with peers on a rotational basis
