As an AbbVie Summer Intern, you will participate in a paid, ten-week summer program that is focused on providing students with robust projects throughout the summer. As an intern, you will be located at our office in Sunnyvale, CA, with housing and shuttle services for eligible students. 


General Position:


Individual will be responsible for working with scientists in the drug discovery group at Biology-Research department, contributing to biochemical and cellular profiling as well as understanding the MOA of lead drug candidates of some of the key projects. The successful internship candidate will be trained to independently perform experiments using molecular cell biology and biochemistry techniques that employing a variety of cell types including primary cells, as well as cancer cell lines, and clinical samples.


Assignment Details:

  • Independently execute experiments in the lab with minimal supervision.
  • Analyze and interpret data using scientific analysis and statistical software.
  • Provide support to other studies driven by in vivo and pharmacology scientists.
  • Summarize and present findings to the research department meetings.
  • Maintain detailed records of all experiments in a laboratory notebook.







  • Completed at least one year of college education before beginning internship
  • Currently enrolled and in good standing at an accredited University graduate program
  • Undergraduate or Graduate Level Student
  • Be an active student in good standing at an accredited university
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or equivalent
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (students on an F1 visa with CPT can be accommodated). 
  • Qualified applicants will be moving into either junior or senior level classwork in molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, or other related field. 
  • Must have previous laboratory experience, must be able to independently handle basic laboratory experiments, such as cell culture, biochemical and cellular assays in 96/384 well plate formats, and Western blotting.
  • A working understanding of basic cell or molecular biology techniques is a plus.
  • Proficient in computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent organizational, record keeping, and communication skills.  
Final Presentation:
Each intern is expected to prepare a short presentation to their team to share what they have learned through their internship and how they hope their new knowledge will help them secure their future career. Presentations may be approximately 10-15 minutes long and should include visual aid (posters or PowerPoint)
